Betsy Wallace Shares a Powerful Christmas Message of Faith and Hope in A Puppy Named Jesus
Betsy Wallace, an award winning children’s book author, invites readers into a tender and faith filled story with her latest release, A Puppy Named Jesus. Set in a quiet country mountain town, the book explores grief, healing, and the enduring power of childlike faith through a story that resonates with families of all ages.
The story follows Jack, a devoted father navigating profound loss after the death of his own father and the passing of his wife to cancer just a year later. Now raising his six year old son Timothy on his own, Jack faces the weight of sorrow while trying to build a new life in an unfamiliar place. Timothy, whose faith was lovingly nurtured by his mother before her passing, carries with him a deep belief that Jesus will always love him and never leave him.
That faith becomes the heart of the story. As Timothy settles into the small mountain town, God uses the purity of his belief, and a very special puppy named Jesus, to quietly spark a revival of hearts within the community. What unfolds is a moving reminder that faith, even when it comes from the smallest among us, can bring healing, restoration, and hope to many.
Wallace was inspired to write the book after reflecting on a thought that stayed with her for years. She imagined a child who had named his puppy Jesus, and what it would mean if that child asked others if they had seen Jesus. Wanting to give that child a meaningful and loving answer, she created A Puppy Named Jesus: Finding the Heart of Christmas as a way to inspire reflection, compassion, and faith, especially during the Christmas season.
At its core, the book carries a message that extends far beyond the holidays. Wallace emphasizes that faith, hope, forgiveness, and healing are not seasonal virtues, but values meant to be lived throughout the year. Through Timothy and his puppy, readers are reminded that God can use even the smallest voices to perform great miracles and draw hearts back to Him.
